Lionbridge Announces 2006 Lionbridge Fellows

Honors Two Lionbridge Technology Leaders for Creating the First Internet-Architected, Real-time Translation Memory

WALTHAM, Mass., January 26, 2006 — Lionbridge Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: LIOX) today announced the establishment of its "Lionbridge Fellows Program" and this year's recognition of two leading language technologists, Joachim Schurig and Eric Blassin for their ground-breaking research, design, and development of Lionbridge's Logoport translation memory (TM) technology. The two Lionbridge Fellows of 2006 were recognized at Lionbridge's Board of Directors meeting today. Schurig and Blassin's efforts in creating and implementing the Logoport(TM) and glossary management system have enabled Lionbridge to create a clear market leadership position through a hosted, managed service model for globalization.

"The long term success of Lionbridge is dependent upon our ability to lead our industry in delivering innovative technical solutions to the ever-changing globalization challenges facing our customers," said Rory Cowan, CEO of Lionbridge. "We are fortunate to have two leading language technologists in our Company. We have created this Fellows Program to allow these leaders to further their research and to push language processing technology boundaries to even greater levels of innovation."

To facilitate the free exchange of ideas and collaboration, Lionbridge Fellows will be granted a one-month, paid sabbatical to meet with thought leaders across a range of industries and at academic institutions to share perspectives on emerging technologies. All travel expenses will be covered by the company in support of this effort.

"The opportunity to dedicate this much time to pure research and knowledge sharing is unprecedented in our industry," said Blassin. "I want to thank Lionbridge for their commitment to research and I look forward to meeting with my colleagues around the world and discussing the next generation of language technology."

Developed and optimized for the Web, Logoport is offered as a free service to Lionbridge clients and translators and is fully compatible with all industry-standard language tools. Through Logoport, Lionbridge centralizes and secures each client's translation memories and glossaries for worldwide, real-time management across all project participants in a scalable environment. Built upon a single instance of code, Logoport enables Lionbridge to seamlessly release continuous updates and new features to all users worldwide. This new model of web-based services benefits clients and translators by enabling real-time, secure and scalable language asset management.

The focus area for 2006 will be investigating the interplay between internet based translation memory and the latest advances in machine translation. The technology fellows will explore ways to incorporate these innovations into Lionbridge's existing technical architecture.

"We are honored to be recognized as the first Lionbridge Fellows," said Schurig upon presentation of the award by Cowan. "Seeing the success and adoption of the Logoport platform has been very rewarding. Being recognized as a Fellow and presented with the time and funding to expand our innovation is very exciting."
