(Nasdaq: LIOX), a provider of solutions for worldwide deployment of technology and content, today announced that its ForeignDesk suite of translation memory tools, which the Company made available as open-source software, has been downloaded by more than ten thousand users to date. Lionbridge published ForeignDesk to the open-source community in November of 2001, making it the first publicly available open-source Computer Aided Translation (CAT) technology.
Lionbridge decided to open-source the ForeignDesk suite in order to rapidly create a free, publicly available, desktop-based Translation Memory (TM) technology. Because ForeignDesk embraces industry standards such as XML and TMX (Translation Memory Exchange), users that download the software are quickly integrating the technology with other off-the-shelf and proprietary products and processes.
