VeriTest Selected by Microsoft for Pocket PC 2002 and Smartphone 2002 Certification Programs

VeriTest to Test Third-Party Applications for Microsoft's "Designed for Windows for Pocket PC 2002" and "Designed for Windows for Smartphone" Certifications

WALTHAM, Mass., April 17, 2002 -- VeriTest, the testing division of Lionbridge Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: LIOX), today announced that Microsoft has selected the company as an independent testing partner for its Pocket PC 2002 and Smartphone 2002 certification programs.

The "Designed for Windows for Pocket PC 2002" certification program represents an update to Microsoft's existing Pocket PC certification program, also run by VeriTest, and incorporates new requirements for Pocket PC 2002, which was announced by Microsoft today. VeriTest worked closely with Microsoft to develop the technical requirements for the new Pocket PC 2002 certification program and will provide testing and technical support to maintain the program.

In addition to the use of Microsoft's "Designed for Windows for Pocket PC 2002" logo, ISVs benefit from this product certification by becoming eligible for membership in the Microsoft Certified Partner Program, as well as a listing on Microsoft's Product Showcase website.

Microsoft has also chosen VeriTest to develop, implement and manage its upcoming certification program for Smartphone 2002. Microsoft and VeriTest are co-developing the certification specifications and the test plan, which VeriTest will use to verify an application's compliance.

"The certification programs we've built with VeriTest around the Pocket PC 2002 and Smartphone 2002 technologies give ISVs assurance that their solutions are compatible within these mobility environments," said Vimal Sethi, product manager for the Mobility Group at Microsoft Corp. "VeriTest has proven expertise in the development and implementation of Microsoft product certification programs. The Pocket PC 2002 and Smartphone 2002 programs are further evidence of our confidence in VeriTest's ability to deliver advanced certification programs."

VeriTest is the worldwide leader in software product certification and testing. Since 1994, VeriTest has developed programs for industry leaders such as IBM, Novell, Alcatel, BMC Software, AT&T Wireless and Stratus. "With the Pocket PC 2002 and Smartphone 2002 technologies, Microsoft is advancing the integration of traditional handheld functionality while meeting the needs of both traditional mobile device users and enterprise customers," said Rory Cowan, CEO, Lionbridge.
