VeriTest Selected by Microsoft To Manage Verification Program for Windows Embedded for Point of Service

VeriTest to Validate and Test Applications for Integration with Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service

Waltham, Mass. — May 24, 2005 — Lionbridge (Nasdaq: LIOX) today announced Microsoft has chosen its VeriTest testing division to manage a verification program for its new Windows Embedded for Point of Service software platform. Launched by Microsoft Corp. today, this new standard, retail-optimized software platform is designed specifically for the retail and hospitality industries.

More than 40 third-party independent software and hardware vendors (ISVs and IHVs) are developing software applications and peripheral devices to work in conjunction with Windows Embedded for Point of Service. While there are expected to be hundreds of Windows Embedded for Point of Service compatible products, only the products tested by VeriTest through this program represent the ISVs and IHVs who have taken the extra step to validate their products through a third-party program.

VeriTest co-developed the product verification requirements and the test methodologies with Microsoft. The VeriTest Tool Engineering Team developed the test tool that automates test cases for peripheral devices. This validation program tests third-party software applications for common interoperability issues as they are installed and executed on Windows Embedded for Point of Service, and will ensure hardware correctly calls appropriate APIs.

"The deployment of highly reliable enterprise applications built for Windows Embedded for Point of Service is key when demonstrating value to customers," said Jane Gilson, director of marketing for the Mobile and Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft. "VeriTest has managed a number of certification and validation programs on Microsoft's behalf for over 10 years and continues to provide value for our ISV and IHV relationships. We are pleased to provide our customers and industry partners with the knowledge and confidence that solutions for Windows Embedded for Point of Service will integrate seamlessly."

Based on the technologies available in Windows XP Embedded with Service Pack 2, Windows Embedded for Point of Service is a component of the Microsoft Smarter Retail Initiative and is an easy-to-use point-of-service platform optimized for the retail industry. In addition, Windows Embedded for Point of Service is the first point-of-service software platform to provide plug-and-play peripheral support, enabling retailers to quickly install and integrate current and legacy retail device peripherals into a point-of-service system.

"Microsoft's selection of VeriTest for this new validation program underscores the value that VeriTest provides for Microsoft and its ISV and IHV partners," said Katrina Teague, Vice President, Solutions, VeriTest. "When these partners are able to demonstrate that their applications meet Microsoft's defined technical standards, IT managers and their users benefit tremendously. We look forward to working with Microsoft industry partners to ensure the interoperability of their products on this new platform."

The VeriTest program development and launch has included testing beta participants. This allowed them to run through the test and process several times, ensuring a smooth process for all of Microsoft's IHV and ISV development partners.
