If you've developed an application that runs on Microsoft SQL Server 2005, you may be able to earn points toward membership in the Microsoft Partner Program and earn an ISV/Software Solutions Competency by passing the "Certified for SQL Server" test. This test is the next step up from the "Platform Test for ISV Solutions," which is also offered by VeriTest.
The Microsoft Partner Program offers extensive sales/marketing and technical benefits at the Gold Certified Partner level. For more information, and to learn the complete requirements for membership, check out the Microsoft Web site.
The level of partnership you seek with Microsoft, and the benefits that go along with it, will determine which test is right for you. The "Certified for SQL Server" test opens the way to a richer relationship with Microsoft.
On the other hand, if you are only looking for an entry-level partnership with Microsoft, taking the "Platform Test for ISV Solutions" may be the way to go at this point.
Please note that "Platform Test for ISV Solutions" only looks for basic application compatibility, while "Certified for SQL Server" tests for higher level SQL Server functionality such as clustering, replication, and other administrative functions.
The Technical Specifications for the Certified for SQL Server 2005 test include the following categories of test cases:
- Accessing and changing relational data
- Program administration, including security management, server and client management, data management, and clustering
- Backing up and restoring databases
- Application installation and removal
- Database replication
- Performance testing
- Application Programming Interface (API) support
In addition, you'll need to complete a SQL Exposure Document (SED) that will help our testers expose various features in your application.
The base fee for this product certification test is $10,000. Testing takes between 10 and 15 business days from start to finish.
