Certified for Windows Vista | Pre-Certification Services
VeriTest Pre-Certification services help you expedite the certification process for the Certified for Windows Vista logo program for your software products. VeriTest will provide you with an analysis of your product’s readiness for the Certified for Windows Vista logo test well before you release your product. VeriTest’s pre-certification report will enable you to correct any logo compliance issues without disrupting your product’s release schedule, allowing you to release your product on schedule, and with the Certified for Windows Vista logo.
During the pre-certification engagement, we assess a feature-complete beta version of your product for compliance with the test cases in the Test Specification that most often cause products to fail the Certified for Windows Vista logo test. Upon completion of pre-certification, we will send you a pre-certification report documenting all discovered logo compliance issues, including the information you need to correct them: steps to reproduce fail issues, observed behavior of fail issues, and the expected behavior.
An added benefit of pre-certification is that VeriTest can provide this service for you even before you have completed the software submission for your product with Microsoft (see step 2 of Instructions). This means you can receive the certification report for your product without delay.
The pre-certification report helps you identify fail issues for which you may wish to request a waiver from Microsoft. Any such waiver requests must be submitted to and approved by Microsoft before the full logo test pass of your product is started. VeriTest will only share the pre-certification report of your product with you. We will only share it with Microsoft with your written permission if we need to get involved in a waiver request for you. In rare occasions, we may need to discuss features or behavior of your product with Microsoft in order to ensure our interpretation of the results is correct. We will only do this on a vendor-anonymous and product-anonymous basis, unless we have your written permission to share these details with Microsoft.
We have learned from over a decade of experience that VeriTest Pre-Certification services typically assure your product will pass the full certification test first time. Therefore, if your product fails the full Certified for Windows Vista logo test because we missed something in its pre-certification test, we will not charge you the re-test fee.*
* This excludes issues that were identified in the pre-certification report, but not corrected in the build submitted for the full test, as well as new issues introduced in the new build.

- Submit your pre-certification package
Required Items
- The pre-certification fee, payable to VeriTest. All fees are due prior to testing. Click here to review our services and pricing (including re-tests).
- A stable, feature complete beta release of your software product with all necessary hardware, passwords, registration numbers and any available documentation. Please note that any code changes that result in changes to the features and functionality of your product are not covered by our free re-test guarantee.
During the on-line registration process, you will be prompted to specify how you wish to deliver your software to us. You can deliver your software to VeriTest on media, or by uploading it to our FTP server. Alternatively, you may provide a URL for us to download your software. If you ship your software on media, please include the Tracking Number you received during registration on all materials you submit.
In addition, based on your application's requirements, you may need to include:
- Any third-party software products required to exercise your product's functionality.
- Any unusual or proprietary hardware required for your product which is unlikely to be in VeriTest's standard library: a specialized 3D video card, a specialized telephony device, a VR headset, etc. These items will be returned to you (at your expense) after a final test result is obtained.
- Any sample data required to exercise your product's functionality. If, for example, you are submitting a development tool, please include a sample program in your (uncompiled) language which we can compile during testing. Please clearly label the sample data.
- If you bundle hardware drivers with your software, they must be tested by WHQL to qualify your application for the Certified for Windows Vista Logo. See http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winlogo/default.mspx.
- If your product features a user interface in a language other than English, we need you to provide instructions, in English, to install, configure, and exercise your product for the test. Please note that a surcharge applies for products that do not include instructions in English.
You will receive an email with delivery instructions after you complete your on-line registration for the test.

Receive your pre-certification report
Once pre-certification is complete, you will receive your pre-certification report from VeriTest. Because of the testing technique, interim results are not available.
