Name: Claire Goodswen
Originally from Huddersfield UK, I have now lived in the USA for 19 years and work from our Waltham HQ.
Sr. Director, North America Solutions
How long have you been at Lionbridge?
I have worked with Lionbridge through the company acquisition legacy for the better part of 19 years. I left the company briefly for a year in 2016, but I realized that I am most definitely a Lion and am very happy to be back in the pride at such an exciting time for our company.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
The best part about being on the solutions team is that there really is no typical day, except to say that my day is spent learning about our customers’ business challenges, hearing about where they want to go globally, and helping remove barriers to get them there. I spend my day solving problems and bringing people together to do really creative and exciting things.
What is your favorite place in your office?
The inside sales space is a fun place to be; it is a very high-energy space. It might be my favorite right now.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is that I get to connect with colleagues and customers from around the globe. My day-to-day is shaped, influenced, challenged, and uplifted by a very global and culturally diverse group of people. It makes you think faster and look at things differently to drive better outcomes. Having the opportunity to work in that environment is truly the best part of what I get to do.
What is the most exciting opportunity on the horizon for your team this year?
My team has grown this year, so it is exciting to get to welcome new team members and expand our knowledge through the things they bring to our team.
Fill in the blanks:
I speak a few languages (list them!)
Do UK and US English count? I also speak a little French and a little Spanish, but I understand much more than I speak.
My favorite local saying is ______, [and it means ______, if not English].
Being from Yorkshire, we have a language all our own. “Ey up” and “Na’then” which can each be said alone or together as one and basically mean “How are you?” as well as “Aye not so bad,” which is pretty much the standard response back and means “I’m fine, thanks.”
A tourist visiting my city shouldn’t miss…
If you are visiting my hometown, you cannot miss a trip to Castle Hill. I grew up in the valley below, and seeing it always reminds me of home.
If you are visiting where I live now, I would say you cannot miss a trip to Crane’s Beach. I live very close to this stunning beach on the north shore of Boston.
My coworkers would say my weirdest habit is…
I think you will have to ask them. Please don’t ask them. 🙂
Outside of work, I always make time for…
My family and the great outdoors. Because I live in such a beautiful area, I try to get outside as much as possible.
The best piece of career advice I’ve ever received is…
Everything is a deliverable, and everybody is in sales. Meaning: good quality and service start with every interaction and every piece of content and message you send to your customer, even before you win the business. Everybody who touches a customer should have an eye on “what else,” where what else is the next thing we can solve for a customer.
My hidden talent is…
Anything creative. I paint, take photos, redesign your living room, make something new out of an old piece of furniture left by the side of the road. Anything that has a creative element puts me in my element.
Traveling to new places and seeing the world makes me roar.
