In this installation of our Meet the Pride Series, meet Abby Camacho, Lionbridge’s Senior Program Director, Americas Enterprise. Abby is passionate about connecting with customers and helping them break language barriers. She also loves connecting with the people in her life by cooking and baking for them.
I’m the senior director for the Americas group. That includes Enterprise, Canada, Interpreting, Legal, and some product initiatives.
I love talking to colleagues and customers all over the world. It’s so nice to engage with them on a professional and personal level. I also love finding solutions and, most importantly, making our valued customers happy.
Helping the team wherever I can. I handle escalations, solutioning, problem-solving, and team boosting. My work is always changing, and I’m lucky to be part of an amazing team.
In May, I’ll have worked at Lionbridge for 18 years. I started within the legal department. Then I grew into other areas in the last five years. What started as a true PM role evolved with technology in the best possible way. Translators and buyers have become smarter and more agile. Legal has truly evolved from a manual, antiquated process to more technologically advanced workflows. We’re used to working with difficult source types, but AI has helped us become much more agile.
The exciting developments being made with AI. It’s fun to see how our solutions have evolved and how our customers and community are really embracing these AI-driven changes!
Legal will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s how I started my career here. It used to be a lot of work handling challenging PDF’s and actual pictures of books containing old case law. Now, Lionbridge’s legal work is much more digitized. Outside of Legal, I love how language connects with people on different levels, whether using multilingual training materials for a new job or through language inclusivity at global events. It’s very fun.
There are so many! I’ve worked with law firms to help refugees get sponsorship by translating documentation on a pro bono basis. It’s exciting to see how customers are involved in international affairs — and their good work that we can assist with.
We have a lot of fun things happening with a major fast-food brand this year. They’re supporting a major sporting event with lots of international participants. We’re also assisting a large religious group as they implement a new ASL program.
That language and translation are never black and white. You really need to understand the cultural backgrounds of target audiences. This may even mean a certain county or province, especially within legal.
I moved back from Japan with a love of reaching people regardless of language barriers. You can communicate with someone simply by engaging with them – either a gesture or a smile. You don’t need to speak the same language, but you somehow find a way. I love that! Being in the language services world allows for expression in ways you don’t think about every day.
I love to cook and bake at home for my husband and dogs, but also for others. In my opinion, food is the best way to bring people together. I genuinely love throwing something together to bring a smile to someone’s face. Anything from homemade macaroni or ravioli, to cookies, to pies and charcuteries! Anytime a Lion is in the Tampa area, they’re welcome to come by for a home-cooked five-course meal.
