Use this cooking conversion tool to help you convert to the unit of your choice.

Ingredients for the Dough:

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp ghee (clarified butter)
  • A pinch of salt

Ingredients for the Filling:

  • 1 cup grated fresh coconut
  • 3/4 cup jaggery (or sugar)
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp chopped dry fruits (cashews, almonds, raisins, etc.)

For Steaming:

  • Extra ghee or oil to grease

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:
Boil water with a pinch of salt and 1 tsp ghee.

Add rice flour gradually and stir to form a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest.

Prepare the Filling:
In a pan, cook grated coconut with jaggery on low heat until it melts and combines.

Add cardamom powder and chopped dry fruits. Mix well and let it cool.

Shape the Modaks:
Take a small portion of dough and roll it into a ball.

Flatten it into a cup shape using fingers or a rolling pin.

Place a spoonful of filling in the center.

Carefully fold the edges to seal and shape into a modak.

Steam the Modaks:
Grease the steamer plate with ghee.

Place the modaks in the steamer and steam for 10–15 minutes.

Serve:
Let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
