Welcome to the Meet the Community series, where we interview our partners and get to know more about them. Our Community is part of our lifeblood here at Lionbridge; without our dedicated, hard-working partners, we wouldn’t be able to continue breaking barriers and building bridges.
This time we’ll be meeting Mirit Bar Ilan, a senior Hebrew Linguist who lives in Kfar Saba, Israel.
I like the workload, the streamlined processes, and I have a good rapport with the PMs.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Art History, I started translating articles for students. Eventually, I found my way to technical and literary translations.
My workday starts with checking my emails. Usually, I'll find job hand-offs from my clients, including Lionbridge. I confirm the jobs that I will be able to work on and, after receiving the hand-off emails from the PMs, I get to work — I download the required materials, translate the contents, and send it all off once it’s complete.
I speak Hebrew and English, and I understand some German. I would have liked to learn Italian and Portuguese, amongst others.
I would love for there to be peace in the region.
I would like to visit the North Pole and see the northern lights. I would also like to visit northern Europe, Scotland, Ireland, and many others.
I find it amazing that our line of work allows people to consume content that was not created in a language that they understand. It enables a level of communication throughout the world that would otherwise be impossible.
I have to say that one of the coolest tasks I have worked on was translating Emojis!
