Meet Michael Geraci

He’s a singer, language connoisseur and a dedicated Program Manager at our Waltham office. For Michael, working in translation is a valuable opportunity to interact with a community of diverse cultures and languages. But most importantly, it’s a way to make a difference in people’s lives.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

Each day, I receive requests from government clients to translate documents, whether they be legal forms or written attestations. Our team provides accurate, neutral interpretation and translation with a high level of expertise to many different situations.

What drew you to your particular role at Lionbridge?

The ability to work directly with Lionbridge partners of many different cultures and languages. I have created a wonderful rapport with all my regular partners who do translation work and I am proud of the work they can accomplish. Also, I enjoy being able to directly deliver quality work to vital government clients.

What is your favorite place in your office?

I love the board room—it has a beautiful view, and I’m always excited when I’m a part of a meeting in that room.

What is the best part of your job?

Being able to break down communication barriers and provide high-quality interpretation and translation work to people who need it. The best part of my job is ensuring that high pressure, high stakes interactions are handled professionally and accurately.

I speak 2 languages:

English and French. I’m also working on Japanese and would love to work in Japan someday.

My favorite local saying is...

"trust your gut, you’ll know when something is right for you."

This can be applied to my everyday work. My job requires me to be very detail-oriented, and when something seems wrong, it most likely is. There is no shame in verifying with a client or customer whether a small detail is sufficient, even if it adds a little bit of time to the project. Every detail counts!

A tourist visiting my city shouldn’t miss…

the beautiful rivers, parks and forests. The Charles River runs right through Waltham all the way into Boston—you could rent a kayak and float all the way to Boston if you wanted!

Outside of work, I always make time for...

video games! From Stardew Valley, to World of Warcraft, to League of Legends, video games are a second passion of mine. I enjoy a few different aspects of playing video games, one of which is strategizing in strategy games. Much like my job, there are multiple aspects to keep in mind when you are making decisions. You have to think three steps ahead in order to come out successful, and you have to be ready for any issues that may arise.

The second is the stories that they tell. Being able to create a storyline and have millions of people connect with it is fascinating to me. I love hearing new stories and following the journey of characters that I’ve learned so much about. Seeing them in battle and earn feats of strength feels like a movie for me and makes me feel like I’ve taken part in the story. I would love to work with Lionbridge’s gaming division to help tell these stories and bring them to life!

The best piece of career advice I've ever received is...

not to rush into anything. The right opportunity tends to show up at the perfect moment.

Delicious food makes me roar.

American, French, and Japanese food are some of my favorites! I have spoken and met Lions of all cultures and backgrounds throughout my career. Being able to speak with them about their cuisine makes me feel like I’ve connected with them on a different level than just being colleagues.
