Meet the Community: Dr. Luciano P.

Lionbridge's Life Sciences Subject Matter Expert in Rome, Italy

Meet Dr. Luciano P., a doctor from Rome, Italy, who has been a part of the Lionbridge Community since 2006. He is a Subject Matter Expert, working on Life Sciences Clinical Review projects and translations. Read on to find out more about Luciano.

What do you like most about being a part of the Lionbridge Community?

I enjoy working in a multicultural environment and being a part of a family from the very beginning.

How did you get into this field?

I am a medical doctor—a general practitioner and ophthalmologist. I enjoy helping with SME reviews, cognitive debriefings and editing medical documents, after helping my patients, of course.

What advice would you give your younger self if they were just starting out in this field?

I do not like to give advice, but I think the most important thing to grow in a profession is “study, study and study again,” to learn continually, since there is always one more thing to learn.

Tell us about some of your hobbies and interests.

I have several hobbies and interests and my free time is always different. I love programming, learning new programming languages and building databases. I also do a lot of gardening work with my tractor and my excavator. I love travelling with my wife all around the world, and I love playing with my three dogs, but above all I love flying my planeI am following a flight training course. My motto is, "You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."

How many languages do you speak, and do you want to learn a new one?

I know English and French and I would like to learn others, but time is short.

What is your favorite word or phrase in your native language and why is it your favorite?

My favorite phrase is “I cani hanno il sorriso sulla coda” (Dogs smile with their tails). I love dogs, animals, nature, happiness and the love they share with us.

What is your favorite food and why?

My favorite food is the Sicilian almond paste, also called marzipan. It is a combination of intense flavors that combine to create a unique pleasure on the palate and on the eyes. It also leads me to a fantastic and timeless place, Sicily, where my father was born.

What do you like most about the country you live in?

Italy is a wonderful country for several reasons: history, culture, nature, climate, friendly and creative people. There are so many different landscapes and some of the most beautiful cities in the world. Of course, there is also our incredible food. In addition, do not forget that our healthcare system is one of the best worldwide.

What country would you like to travel to and why?

I am a real traveler and I love to find new places to visit. I have visited many countries so far, such as most of European countries, Namibia, South Africa, Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and India. However, many other places are waiting for me. Next stop? Perhaps Tasmania.

What, in your opinion, makes your industry special?

The healthcare and Life Sciences industry is a challenging but ever-changing world. As science is constantly evolving, it is important to be alert, to grow and to be aware of the most updated information.
